Maternal

 

ART SPACE 3 (Booth A04) presents Maternal, a solo presentation by Park Miwha at this year’s HIVE Art Fair. Park has long commemorated those who have been sacrificed in contemporary disasters — war, displacement, pandemics, and the climate crisis — through her sculpture. This exhibition introduces a new series, Name, in which the names of children who lost their lives are engraved onto discarded plywood collected from construction sites and installed across a seven-meter wall, with a portrait evoking the figure of a mother placed opposite. At the center of the space stand works made from Euonymus alatus branches pruned in the artist’s studio — Arrowwood Figure and Arrowwood Crown. In this talk, Park shares the thinking behind her practice of honoring the innocently lost, and the process of gathering discarded materials and transforming them into works that carry the possibility of another time.
